In Depth History
In the years that followed World War I, a
movement developed among college and university bands, searching for some
motivating force that would create a greater interest in band music. This
movement sought expression in an effort to develop good will, fellowship and
understanding among bands and their members, and to recognize the value of
dedicated leadership.
William Scroggs, the driving force behind the creation of Kappa Kappa, joined with A. Frank Martin, the Band President, and Bohimul Makovsky (known to everyone as BOH) to create the band fraternity. After initially deciding what they wanted the fraternity to stand for, they selected eight men of the band to join them in creating Kappa Kappa Psi.
Sponsors of the Alpha Theta chapter include J. DeForest Cline, Wayman Walker, Kenneth Singleton, and Richard Mayne.
At the time of its founding, the Alpha Theta chapter's school was known as Colorado State Teachers
College and the Band Master of the C.T.C Band was James DeForest Cline. Since then, the school has been renamed the Colorado State College of Education in 1935, and in 1970 was renamed the University of Northern Colorado and remains so today.
